  4. The eyepieces can be focused by placing the focusing rod in the hole where the lamp and microscope arms rotate.

  6. With the focusing rod in place, adjust 
  7. the beam width to give a narrow 
  8. parallelepiped.  The beam should be in 
  9. center of your field of view.   If it is 
  10. not check the lever on the side of the 
  11. light tower which changes the lateral 
  12. angle of the light source to see that it 
  13. is in the  click position.  Looking 
  14. through the eyepieces (one at a time) 
  15. rotate the eyepiece counter-clockwise 
  16. until the beam is blurred then clockwise 
  17. until it just comes into focus.

  19. Remove the focusing rod and you are 
  20. ready to examine the patient.
